If you need help deciding on a size, it would be best to CALL one of our experts or contact us direct and we will be glad to point you in the right direction. Otherwise you can use the following tips to design your shed just like a professional would.

Time To Get Technical

Not only does your building need to suit your storage needs, but has to be expertly designed and engineered to suit your site specifically. When designing a kit shed our team is trained to calculate the Ultimate Site Wind Speed for your exact site location, and take into account Building Classification, Region, Terrain Category, Shielding and Topography. It is also important if your building is open or doors are not windlocked, the building will be designed with an increased Internal pressure typically +0.7 – 0.65, to ensure your building complies with the relevant Building Codes of Australia AS/NZS 1170, AS 4055, AS 4100, AS/NZS 4600, AS 3623, AS 3566 & AS 2870

When considering getting a Machinery Shed price, we recommend considering the 4 key design elements

1. Building Width

2. Building Length

3. Building Height

4. Materials and Frame Style

Building Widths for Open Front Sheds

The smallest shed you could have would be a 9m Wide x 12m Long x 3.6m High. These smaller machinery sheds are great for the hobby farmer or just the man on the land who needs a small space to keep their equipment out of the weather. Machinery sheds are able to be customised in size to suit large farm machinery, right up to 24m span to fit trucks and trailers. Entry into your shed can be throught the end of the buildings with roller doors, metal sliding doors or open bays or through the sides and same options as the ends.

If you have more room, better sizes for your garage would be from 12m Wide, 15m Wide, 18m Wide up to 24m. These sizes are great, because you can get the extra room you need for the bigger items, or even storing hay. With the larger sheds it is common to create work areas along side or behind the cars for workshop areas.

Our professional staff are always ready to help design the most cost effective width design and option for your shed specifically.

Building Length for Machinery Sheds

Length of any building is normally calculated in increments of 3m, 4m, 4.5m or 6m. Again the space you have will decide the maximum length you can have, but always keep in mind whether you need additional storage space for lockup bays with shelving, cupboards or a workbay to store tools. To achieve this you would add a minimum of 3m to the length of a standard building.

Building Height

The items that will be stored in the shed will determine the height you will need. If you only intend on storing smaller items and  equipment, 3.6m wall height will be adequate – but don’t overlook what items may be purchased down the track, so if you’re planning on getting some bigger machinery in the future – now’s the time to make those design allowances.

Building Frame materials and frame Styles

Using PSF’s quality and unique Welded Portal Frame Sheds, we are able to offer you the strongest and most heavy duty shed on the market. Get heavy duty welded connection plates for the base, knee and apex. You’ll save time on site when building your shed. All connection bolts are minimum of 16mm and connection plates starting from 8mm thick. We design and build extra-large spans, with no internal columns, giving a maximum uninterrupted, undercover working area. We have sheds that suit cyclonic regions and rated and suitable for our North Queensland conditions. Due to the integrity & structural strength of our frames, they are very stable and quick to construct. Not light weight and floppy to handle.

When choosing the materials for your shed, you can be certain that we have thought about the quality and value for money. All of our products are Aussie made, heavy gauge thickness and come with supplier warranties backed by Australian businesses. We want you to get the best shed in the market place, so we choose the best products available in the market place. Our suppliers of sheeting and rainwater products have a huge variety of cladding styles from Corrugate, Monoclad and C-Clad Weatherboards. You get to choose if you run it vertically or horizontally. Colour selections are not just limited to a few, and we use genuine Colorbond colours – not just a knock off.

Everything you need to know when Considering Colours for your shed.

Colours are a very personal thing when it comes to a shed. Each individual usually have their own taste when it comes to colour. With that said, we usually follow these easy rules when it comes to colours.

Lighter colours are cooler than dark colours, so if you plan on spending time in your shed – lighter colours are the best. You can however insulate the shed to keep temperatures down. Many of the Colorbond colours now are fantastic at blending your shed in with its surrounds. Lighter greens and browns help your shed dissappear into the natural surroundings. Also choosing one colour only helps to minimise visual impact as compared with different colours for the roof, trims, walls and roller doors.

Check out our 26 Colour options availabe from Colorbond and ask the opposition if they are giving you the genuine Colorbond colours or just giving you their equivalents.

Adding Additions and Extra items

In all cases you can add extra items for additional benefits. Add windows for light and ventilation, access doors into the shed for easy entry rather than opening the roller door, motors on your roller door for automatic entry.

Most double garages come with two roller doors in the end, but you are able to put an extra roller door on the end to make it drive through and give access to the back yard, or extra doors on the side wall for extra entry points for trailers, bikes etc if the length allows.

Windows are an item that come with pros and cons. Windows can provide some great airflow, but can also let in the heat. If you can avoid it, don’t put windows on the western wall as it will be very hot, regardless of the airflow it provides. If you are looking to move hot air around it the shed whirly birds are great for this and can dramatically reduce the heat. Windows also allow prying eyes or an easy point where a shed can get broken into.

Add Side or gable roof only extensions to provide additional roof cover.
