If you need help deciding on a size, it would be best to CALL one of our experts or contact us direct and we will be glad to point you in the right direction. Otherwise you can use the following tips to design your shed just like a professional would.

Lets Get Technical

Designing a 4 bay shed is very important, especially when engineering the framing components and ordering materials. Your building will be designed and engineered to suit your site specifically. When designing a kit shed we calculate the Ultimate Site Wind Speed for your exact site location, taking into account Building Classification, Region, Terrain Category, Shielding and Topography. If your building is open or doors are not windlocked, the building will be designed with an increased Internal pressure typically +0.7 – 0.65, to ensure your building complies with the relevant Building Codes of Australia AS/NZS 1170, AS 4055, AS 4100, AS/NZS 4600, AS 3623, AS 3566 & AS 2870

When considering getting a 4 bay garage price, we recommend considering the 4 key design elements –

1. Building Width

2. Building Length

3. Building Height

4. Materials and Frame Style

Building Width

The smallest 4 car garage you could have would be a 6m Wide x 12m Long x 2.4m High. There would be limited room around the car on all sides. Entry into the shed would be with 4 roller doors on the side. Most clients chasing 4 car accomodation upgrade the width of the building to larger widths 7.5m or 9m and maximise the space around vehicles and for extra cupboard storage.  Larger vehicles like the 4×4’s would be best to have a building height starting at 2.7m wall height and a 2.4m High roller door.

Building Length

Length of any building is much easier. Again the space you have will determine the maximum length you can have, but always keep in mind whether you need additional storage space with shelving, cupboards or a workbay to store tools. To achieve this you would add a minimum of 1.5m to the length of a standard car 6m to give you a length of 7.5m. You could add a workbench of 500mm or 600mm and still have a work area up to 900mm wide. Normal increments in shed length are 3m, but are not limited to as you can have any length that suits.

Building Height

The items that will be stored in the shed will determine the height you will need. If you only intend on storing a small car, bike or garden equipment, 2.4m wall height will be adequate – but don’t overlook resale of your property in the future, as this now limits who could purchase your property based on what vehicle they are driving. 2.7m High sheds are the best bet for people if they own a 4×4 or bigger vehicle.

Caravans and boats are getting bigger and bigger, and at the moment 3m High and 3.6m High are required to get these items in. It is always best to check the dimensions of your vehicles or items before ordering your shed, just to be sure – even so you can get an accurate price, you will need to know the heights for some of these items.

Building Frame materials and frame Styles

PSF have two frame styles available when choosing your shed. Stud frame trusses and walls is the best frame when it comes to these smaller sheds. Wall frames are only 80mm wide, so you don’t lose as much internal space in your shed as you would with a portal frame. The stud frame walls allows for easily adding shelving, powerpoints and lighting where required. If you require your shed to be lined internally, this is also the best frame style. Extra studs, trusses and ceiling battens can be added. Our portal frame design is used when you need a nice open, ceiling and no truss bottom chord in the way. Both frame styles are great for the DIY or homeowner to build. All of our kits come with detailed descriptions and paperwork to help with the build process. We are a kit only supplier and do not do slab, build or council approvals. However our professional team is available for support and happy to talk you or your builder through any technical quesitons or aspects of the shed build process.

All of our products are Aussie made, heavy gauge thickness and come with supplier warranties backed by Australian businesses. We want you to get the best shed in the market place, so we choose the best products available in the market place. Our suppliers of sheeting and rainwater products have a huge variety of cladding styles from Corrugate, Monoclad and C-Clad Weatherboards. You get to choose if you run it vertically or horizontally. Colour selections are not just limited to a few, and we use genuine Colorbond colours – not just a knock off.

Everything you need to know when Considering Colours for your shed.

Colours are a very personal thing when it comes to a shed. Each individual usually have their own taste when it comes to colour. With that said, we usually follow these easy rules when it comes to colours.

Lighter colours are cooler than dark colours, so if you plan on spending time in your shed – lighter colours are the best. You can however insulate the shed to keep temperatures down. Many of the Colorbond colours now are fantastic at blending your shed in with its surrounds. Lighter greens and browns help your shed dissappear into the natural surroundings. Also choosing one colour only helps to minimise visual impact as compared with different colours for the roof, trims, walls and roller doors.

Check out our 26 Colour options availabe from Colorbond and ask the opposition if they are giving you the genuine Colorbond colours or just giving you their equivalents.

Adding Additions and Extra items

In all cases you can add extra items for additional benefits. Add windows for light and ventilation, access doors into the shed for easy entry rather than opening the roller door, motors on your roller door for automatic entry.

Most 4 car garages come with 4 roller doors in the side, but you are able to put an extra roller door behind to make it drive through and give access to the back yard, or extra doors on the side wall for extra entry points for trailers, bikes etc if the length allows.

Windows are an item that come with pros and cons. Windows can provide some great airflow, but can also let in the heat. If you can avoid it, don’t put windows on the western wall as it will be very hot, regardless of the airflow it provides. If you are looking to move hot air around it the shed whirly birds are great for this and can dramatically reduce the heat. Windows also allow prying eyes or an easy point where a shed can get broken into.

Add Side or gable roof only extensions to provide additional roof cover.
